Letter from Jon, July 2026 

 

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus

1 Thess 5:16-18

 

Dear Liberty Family and Friends

 

A little late this month in sending out my letter, but I'm afraid holidays took priority!  Anyway, we were back in Liberty Centre this week and what a joy to see the children's holiday club in full swing.  Just in case you were not aware, over the last couple of years St Leonard's Church of Scotland have been using Liberty Centre for their annual Summer holiday club which has been running now for many, many years.  It is a very well organised, resourced and led club with many kids coming along and it is so exciting that we are able to provide not only a venue but also many team members working alongside the St Leonard's team.  We are also hosting the council run 'Café Inc' during this week which provides lunches not only for those taking part but also for anyone who would want or need lunch provision during the Summer holidays.

 

Seeing the holiday club in operation made me so grateful again for all we have as a church.  There is so much to rejoice over and give thanks for.  I am thankful for Liberty Centre and all it allows us to do as a church throughout the week and through the year.  I am thankful for the amazing team (mostly Richard and Trevor) who are there almost every Tuesday maintaining and improving the facilities that we have.  I am thankful that we get to share our resources with another church in the city, working together to see God's kingdom come.  I am thankful for all our people helping out with the holiday club this week as leaders, helpers, food preparers and servers.  I am thankful for all the children who are coming along this week, hearing the Good News of Jesus in such creative ways.  I am thankful for our own children's work and the great team we have making it happen each week.  I am thankful for being part of a church that is engaging more and more with the community around us in so many ways, wanting people to experience the hope of the Gospel. I am thankful for being part of such a great team of elders, leaders and trustees.  I am thankful that we live in a land that allows us to worship freely and for the favour we have with local government and council.

 

Echoing the words of Paul above, there is so much to be thankful for and to rejoice over and my encouragement over this Summer, hoping that we will all find time for rest and refreshing, is that we would do just that and that we would be a people of prayer, bringing our church, our community and our land before God, that together we might see the goodness of God in our midst.
